What is a Carbide Burr

Carbide Burs are mainly used for tasks including cutting, grinding, shaping and removing sharp edges, burrs, and excess material.

What is a Carbide Burr?

A carbide bur is a tool used for removing material from metal surfaces. The burrs are designed to rotate at a very high speed, enabling it to control the fabric it’s performing on.

For carving into stone, ideally use a Diamond Burr.

Where to Use Carbide Burr?

Tungsten Carbide burrs are often used on many materials: metals including steel, aluminum, and forged iron, all kinds of wood, acrylics, fiberglass, and plastics. When used on soft metals like gold, platinum, and silver, carbide burrs are ideal as they will last an extended time with no chipping or breaking.

When working with metal, burrs are great for deburring, shaping, and enlarging holes. Tungsten carbide rotary burrs are often used on all metals, including steel, chrome steel, and aluminum. they’re commonly employed by metal fabricators and engineers for tool making, model engineering, jewelry making, welding, deburring, grinding, and sculpting

Different cuts of carbide burrs are going to be best suited to certain materials. Ideally, carbide burrs are utilized in Air Tools, i.e. Die Grinders, Pneumatic rotary tools, and high-speed engravers.

Carbide burrs are widely used for metalwork, toolmaking, engineering, model engineering, wood carving, jewelry making, welding, chamfering, casting, deburring, grinding, plate porting, and sculpting. And are utilized in the aerospace, automotive, dental, metal sculpting, and metalsmith industries to call but a couple of.

Carbide burr is usually used for cutting the following material:

  • Steel, steel & chrome steel
  • Cast Iron
  • Aluminum
  • Titanium
  • Cobalt
  • Nickel
  • Gold, Platinum & Silver
  • Ceramics
  • Fiberglass
  • Plastic, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CRP)
  • Optical fiber Reinforced Plastic (GRP)
  • Brass, Copper & Bronze
  • Zinc
  • Wood
